fan review
after seeing them in rome (last july) with the amiina and the horny brasstards i was rather anxious to know how the new songs would work with only the four original band members. i must say they didn't disappoint me (at all!).

i've missed all the other concerts here, in portugal, therefore i was quite surprised to learn that this is one of sigur rós favourite places to play.  and that became crystal clear with the overwhelming performance they delivered to an astonished portuguese audience.

campo pequeno is probably not the best venue for a sigur rós show. it is a very beautiful place but acoustically it has a tricky reverberation that becomes difficult to manage with such complex music. for this reason there were a couple of moments where the sound was not that clear, especially during "inní mér syngur vitleysingur" that was tainted by a rather annoying feedback.

during the entire show emotions balanced between "extremely enthusiastic" (childish happiness) and "completely dazzled" (chin down and fish eyes). first time i saw "festival" and "all alright" live and i completely froze when all the 8500 people became noiseless to breathe in the latter song.

with the help of for a minor reflection (a very good performance, opening for sigur rós. so much energy!), "gobbledigook" had the usual party spirit. lots of confetti and clapping and everyone were extremely euphoric, ready for the encore.

excellent choice of the closing theme, "popplagið". this is a very powerful song that calls for your raw emotions and basic instincts. jónsi interacted a lot with people from the first rows and ended up throwing down the mic stand and the guitar. they left the stage next, only to come back, twice, and thank the support and warm presence of the portuguese fans.

in the end, only one word in everyone's minds: obrigado (takk)
(bruno amaro)
