review
first time sigur rós has ever stepped in mexican lands. people were excited and you could see them outside the venue doors since 9 a.m.
it was a sunny day, but nobody moved from their places, they didn't want to loose their places.
the organizators finally let us in at 7:00 and people were running just to get the better places, to see them as close as possible.
we waited for another two hours. the opening act started at 9:00 and played for about 45-60 minutes. people was very desperate about all of this, we wanted to see sigur rós already. we didn't want to deal with the promotor's bad organization.
finally, sigur rós' staff started testing. it was a long wait: until 10:20 sigur rós stepped the stage, everybody was so happy, clapping, screaming, crying. in the background we could hear the first tunes: it was "svefn-g-englar" that they started with. i felt goose-bumps down my spine and couldn't help but tears dropped down my eyes. everybody took their places and their instruments, and it was about seconds when a blue light bathed the stage at the same time everybody played the first note of their instruments.
everybody was amazed, we couldn't believe it, we couldn't assimilate what was happening at that moment.
they were dressed in formal suits. they looked like toy little soldiers. colors were black, red and white. jonsí had a couple of feathers in his head, right behind his right ear. kjartan had a penguin suit, and his beard completed the outfit. goggi looked incredible as well. orri was the only one dressed casually, with a gray or olive green t-shirt (can't remember).
they came along with the girls from amiina, and a band of four trumpetists.
each song had it's own personality. each song changed your mood: you could be jumping around with goobledigook and soon after crying with the beginning of festival, and again jumping with it's end.
"svefn-g-englar" soon ended, we still couldn't believe it, and then "vaka" started. jonsí's voice was powerful, they really shot us right into our hearts, specially at the end of it. the euphoria of this first moments of the concert are unexplainable.
"glósoli" managed us to smile, calm us for a just a little while and feel the euphoria of this first moments again with it's end.
"goobledigook" was so much fun, jonsí encouraged us to jump and dance. he raised his arms while he was smiling for us to do it. the girls of amiina played the big drums behind all of them, and the choruses were made by the trumpets-band.
"inní mér syngur vitlevsingur" was a new song, so we quietly listened to it, but we moved our heads and hands to it.
i couldn't help smiling for such joyful tune. i was moving my head from side to side and then clapping at the rythm of the tune.
"festival" was calm and serene. as it was a new song, we listened quietly. it was like there was nobody there. not even a single breath could be heard during this song. it was just when goggi and orri came into scene and we couldn't help not shouting for a few seconds for the enthusiasmic end that the song was about to reach.
"hoppípolla" and "meš blóšnasir" made us laugh and smile. jonsí kind of forgot the lyric at the beginning or he thought kjarri messed up, because he looked and stared at him for a few seconds, then he smiled with a shy expression and continued playing. everyone at stage seemed so happy, they looked to each other enjoying every second of it.
"fljótavik", another beauty from the new album got us into a nostalgic mood. after hoppípolla, imagine the emotional rollercoaster we lived at this concert.
"se lést" made us laugh because of the fact that sigur rós' trumpets-band walked from one side of the stage to the other, one of them sporting a big white charro hat!
"olsen olsen" brought us nostalgic moments. goggi was enjoying this song very much from what i remember seeing. i don't know where the air came from or maybe it was my hallucination but goggi's hair was flying around his head in this one song, movie-like scene. jonsí's voice was out of this world, so was orri's drumming.
after "olsen olsen" they began with "viš spilum endalaust". more happy moments to remember, and a new song played live.
"hafsól", started with goggi's beautiful bassing. this was one of the most incredible songs of the concert, because of the energy the band had. this is the song where jonsí broke his cello bow strings and orri his drumsticks. they really felt it, i have never seen something like this live, it seemed they went to another place, kind of like if they were possessed by their own music, they all connected in this one. jonsí later threw his cello bow to the audience and some pieces of orri's broken drumsticks flew through the air to reach us.
in "heysátan" all the band and the trumpets gathered close together. it was magical.
"poplaggiš" was the last song. it was the most powerful when it comes to the interpretation. they knew it would be over soon, so they wanted us to remember this forever. a soft white light was illuminating them at the beginning, just to make it glow stronger at the super powerful end of it. jonsí was almost kneeling on the floor playing his guitar, and as soon as it finished he threw it to the floor.
they left the stage and we wanted even more! it was not enough, we needed more, so we requested for it. people shouting "”otra, otra, otra!" for more songs, or at least just one.
jonsí came back on stage and everybody praised. he sat in his small piano and thanked us all for everything, "we are going to play one more song. this one we have never played it."
"all alright" is what he played. it was beautiful. he brought so many tears to my eyes. i cannot explain what it made me feel, it filled everything inside of me.
at the middle of the song he stood up, straight up to the microphone and with both of his hands at his sides. when he started singing, his voice felt so unbelieavable painful yet so beautiful...he was also complementing his voice with some hand movements, swirling his fingers and slowly spinning his hands in circles, putting them close to his chest and his stomach.
after he finished, he left the stage, everybody had a few seconds of silence just to shout soon after for more "sigur rós! sigur rós! sigur rós!" we'd say. they came back with all of the musicians and bowed in front of us, they also waved at us when they finally left the stage with no further come backs.
in resume it was full of happiness, nostalgia, fun, melancholy and beautifulness: everything.
