fan review
as we walked into the performing arts center in austin just before showtime, i couldn't help but noticed how interesting this venue was. there was an orchestra level on the floor and then 2 upper balcony sections which seemed to have a very nice view of the stage i would imagine. i also noticed the difference of the audience which seemed include more of the younger generation than most of the sigur ros shows i had been to.
as the lights went down and amina took the stage, silence took over the hall. amina then played their usual 45-minute set which is always a good way to open the evening. sigur ros took the stage shortly after amina with a bang! for some reason at all the shows i had been to on the "takk..." tour seemed to be cursed with some sort of technical difficuly. tonight.. it was during ' ný batterí'. jonsi's guitar seemed as if it wasn't "acting" the way he wanted it to... i could see the frustration in his face as he kept trying to get it to sound the way he wanted it to but it just wasn't happening.
of course this didn't stop the show from being as good as i had expected it to be. after each song the crowd roared with their cheers and applause as if they too did not want it to end. i would often close my eyes just to hear jonsi's voice echo in the hall and thinking to myself.. " it doesn't get any better than this!"
after the show we were walking out into the lobby of the venue when i saw one of the most unusual things i had ever seen at a sigur ros show... a fan wearing a gas mask just like in the untitled #1 (vaka) video. it was one of strangest yet amusing things i had ever seen. overall, i was impressed by how much better i thought this crowd was than during the 2003 tour which was not quite a good experience as this one...takk... austin!
