when i heard that sigur ros was playing denver (only their second time here), i was first in line to get tickets. the morning i purchased the tickets a beautiful snow storm fell on the denver area. playing () while driving in the snow to pick up tickets was just the beginning of the sigur ros experience. sigur ros played here in denver on feb. 23, 2006 at the historic paramount theatre. i got 8th row seats to the right of the stage. i was sitting right on the aisle and had a great view of orri pall dyrason wailing away on the drums with a focused intensity. watching the drumming up close was really incredible. i would've preferred that the keys were a bit more up front (both on stage and in the mix), but i was also on the opposite side of the stage so it was hard to see because of that anyway. the sound was great and the band was flawless. there was a moment when it appeared that the strings (performed by amina) weren't being mixed in properly and jonsi was obviously upset about it. otherwise, though, the set was smooth and moving, both emotionally and spiritually. the crowd of 2,000 was without a doubt in as much awe as i was. at quiet moments you could hear a pin drop. i appreciate this. denver crowds tend to be noisy, but not tonight. i love all the songs and can't really pin down a favorite other to say that popplagio is a perfect outro song. glisoli rocks the house in such an emotional way. i just wish the band played a bit longer and in denver more often! it wasn't enough for me. must move to iceland perhaps. i plan on purchasing the amina ep as soon as i can find a copy. going to check my local shoppe before mail order. was very impressed with amina's opening music.
