georg's tour diary
beautiful church, and really good food. i know jónsi especially enjoyed the
tofu. i started to get some computer problems so i am now not able to send any tour
diary entries, but hopefully this will be fixed soon. steindór arrived today,
he's the guy who is going to do three songs with us. he does traditional icelandic
rimes. we were a bit worried about the sound in the church because it was so big but
i think it all came out pretty well. the quiet bits were nice but the loud bits were
a bit too loud. overall i think this was the best concert in some time and we all
enjoyed it very much. and like stuart always says "it's all going terribly well".

the church was wonderful, thanks to the parish that made that possible. they had light
of different colors shining up into the chorus from the ground and the light jockey
had a very good hand with it. i guess we will see pictures of that, since everybody
seemed to take some, it was rather anoying at times.
the sound was good although they seemed to have some problems at the beginning. but sound quality is not all you need - i still like to listen to the joy division concerts that are available and their sound equipment was horrible, but they had so much power and quality in their music that it didn't matter.
when steindor andersen came to the mic i thought at first he was the chuch's priest who was giving us a prayer after all, but without a word he just started singing these rimurs (there were three of them) and they had still a diferent quality than the singing of jonsi. it sounded like it came from somewheere deep deep inside, like the singer had experienced many cold winters much darkness and still preserved a lot of warmth but had to hide it from the outside world and only by singing would show some of it.
i was very happy they put ny batteri on the list. i love that song. all in all
it was one of the best concerts i've ever been to (and it paid me back ten times the
3 hour trip from freiburg to frankfurt.

well, we've had the luck to've been in frankfurt yesterday. still don't know how to
explain myself, except using these words like "great", "excellent" and so on. well,
as some of you will know, it was a church, and it was a really nice place for that
kind of concert. of course, no beer was sold, but, hey, no problem with that. sound
was great, "optics" was great (as far as i can tell sitting in row 15 or something
like that), music was great, wonderful, i just sat still and enjoyed .. audience was
quite "ok" imo, of course, sometimes you don't know when to start clapping, and there
was flashlights now and then what was really bright when everything else is quite
dark, but ok, i'd like to have some photos, also. dunno for how long the show went,
lost every sense of time within, but i guess it's been quite long. no need for details,
it won't help and you will know yourself, also. just, i had a great time yesterday
evening, thanks a lot, guys! (and girls.)

frankfurt was definitely the best sigur rós show i've ever seen! nothing could
beat the atmosphere of this gothic style church. and what a surprise when steindor
andersson came on stage! i know we've had this 'oh my god, i was moved to tears'-talk
a lot before, but I was really so close to tears this time and chills were running
down my spine and my body was full of goose pimples! i was like an earthquake taking
away the ground under my feet and a thunderstorm blowing me away to the back of the
church! i'm grateful for all the four gigs i saw in the last two weeks and I will
definitely never forget frankfurt in my life! i'm also so happy frankfurt was the
last gig in the row for me to see because it didn't leave this feeling of emptiness
because there are no further gigs in the near future in me, but left me so satisfied
and content with what i got. i really wouldn't have liked to see them play some ugly
venue or even festival the next night!
