georg's tour diary
today was a great day. after rehearsing for two days in london we drove off to amsterdam. we haven't actually played the songs we're playing on this tour since the last tour. so it was good to rehears a little. we arrived at the venue and it was fantastic. a beautiful old church but quite smelly, maybe because it's been a venue for years. o.k so we had a really good sound check (it's really difficult to write now there are so many people talking around me) and the gig was fantastic. the audience were great and kind, they really were listening.

after the gig we went back on the bus as usual (were i'm sitting now writing this) and played a nasty trick on our tour manager stuart. you see when we were on the last tour kjartan got left on a bus station in the middle of nowhere and i forgot to write it in the diary. so as soon as we left the venue kjartan got in the toilet and hid. ten minutes later we asked stuart if he had seen kjartan, he couldn't believe his ears. he really thought we'd left him behind. haha very funny (we thought so anyway). and that's where we are now, sitting on the bus and having fun celebrating a good gig and being happy.

i was completely blown away by the show. especially the new material was sheer genius. i found it to be a darker and intenser then the agaetis byrjun album. (i don't know the new stuff yet, i don't like downloading 1-minute snippets of new songs)

they played a solid two hours, as i said mostly new material.

i saw sr in the ancienne belgique in brussels in november last year. the songs they played in a'dam were pretty much the same as during that concert, although there were some nice new things they added to some songs. they ended the regular set with hafssol and played two extra songs: the first i can't remember (at least the title) and the second one was the pop song.

it was the first time i went to a concert in paradiso (i'm from belgium and it's a'dam is quite far from here ;-) and i must say it's very nice venue to see sigur ros in performing.

oh, they didn't play two of my favorites (actually all sr songs are my favorites ;-). vidrar vel til loftarsa and the nothing song were not on the playlist. they did play songs like von, svefn-g-englar, nyja lagid, olsen olsen.

they didn't play any song they did not play last year, but they changed some of the songs like popplagið (they added strings which makes the climax even more intense!!!) and they changed the quiet song/tedious song by adding some new drum bits and the end of this one was like an earthquake! i felt like losing the ground under my feet - amazing!!! and they changed the one which i downloaded once as untitled-new.mp3 so much that it took me a while to realize which song it is. jonsi plays something different and the drumming is different and it seemed more quiet and they added an epic piano ending of imense length!

oh and by the way, they had a lot of merchandise with them! three different t-shirts (one for every album i think) and those funny red hats... and probably they're gonna have something special during the second half of the tour...
