new album video update

on the dót widget there is a new short clip called “assault and battery” filmed on the 2nd of may as the band were wrapping up the recording of their next album.

the video shows some behind the scenes snippets from the artwork process aswell as a few short snippets from the final mixing of the album.

e bow from iceland

a previously unseen clip from the “heima” tour is now available on sigurros.com. its of “e bow” in djúpavík in iceland on july the 27th 2006 and is available when you sign up for the sigurros.com mailing list.

heima screenings

we have added more “heima” screenings to the long list. screenings in australia, england and the netherlands over the next few months have been added and you can get more information here.

studio video

australian concerts

the band are to play two concerts in australia before their festival appearance at “splendour in the grass” on august the 3rd. they play in melbourne on the 1st of august and in sydney on the 2nd. as usual more information here.

we changed the code that runs the majority of the site recently (i.e everything except this news blog and also the tour diary), so if you see any errors or things that are a bit off then let us know.

nyc concert

another american show has been announced. sigur rós will play the grand ballroom (in the manhattan centre) in new york city on june the 16th. tickets go on sale tomorrow (thursday may the 8th) at 12 noon edt on ticketmaster.com.

swiss concerts

the band will play two concerts in switzerland in july. one on the 9th in lausanne and one on the 14th in zürich. more information on our tour dates page.

more german shows

four more german concerts have been announced. the band will play in köln, wiesbaden, berlin and dresden in august. information and links can be found on our tour pages.

kansas and omaha concerts

sigur rós will play the uptown theatre in kansas city on june 12th and presale tickets for the concert have gone on sale on ticketmaster.com. if you know the presale password then you can get your tickets a bit early, if not then general sale starts this saturday morning at 10am cdt.

also, the band will play in the orpheum theatre on june 11th in omaha city. tickets will go on sale here soon. we will let you know when just as soon as we know.

presale tickets for the bands appearance at beatday in copenhagen on august the 9th are now on sale on klink.is (along with other presales for the italian and viennese concerts)

four more festival dates have been announced - the band will play in spain, australia, denmark and france in july and august. check out our tour dates page for more information.

sigur rós in abbey road studios

sigur rós are currently in abbey road’s studio one recording a track with a boys choir and 67-piece orchestra. in an interview in today’s morgunblaðið newspaper, orri revealed that the album’s sound is considerably different than on their previous albums, and that the lyrics on this album will be “more understandable to the public than on previous albums”. the album is nearly completed and is expected to be released this summer.

czech, polish & russian concerts

three more summer concerts have been announced. the band will play in prague on the 19th of august, warsaw on august the 20th and moscow on the 27th. for all the confirmed summer tour dates go here.

mexican tour dates announced

sigur rós will visit mexico for the first time this june. the band will play in guadalajara, tepoztlán (near mexico city) and tijuana on the 5th, 7th and 8th of june respectively. we will let you know about tickets as soon as we get it.

heima in vancouver

the director of “heima”, dean deblois, will be in attendance at several screenings of the movie in vancity theatre in vancouver, canada this weekend. the film will be screened in hd / dolby 5,1 sound. for more information on the event go to this page, with further information about other international screenings here on this site.

riceboy sleeps in belgium

riceboy sleeps , the art project of alex somers and jónsi, will be taking part in a one day festival in belgium called badtaste4ever. the event takes place on the 30th of april in brussels.

we have just added several recently announced summer concerts and festival appearances to the tour page. concerts in america, germany, belgium, italy, france, england, scotland, norway, sweden and ireland have so far been announced with more to come.

riceboy sleeps in london

riceboy sleeps, the art project of jónsi and alex somers, will be exhibiting some of their work at london’s agency gallery from april the 10th to may the 17th. more information can be found on the gallery’s website. more information on riceboy sleeps can be found on riceboysleeps.com.

national geographic article

in the march 2008 issue of “national graphical magazine” there is an indepth article on the kárahnjúkar dam project which was featured in the “heima” documentary. the article can be read here. (there is also additional notes and video resources available on the site.)

today also sees the launch of sigurros.com. its a new site that over the next few months will give fans an opportunity to download performances from the iceland “heima” tour that didnt make it into the movie or the second dvd in “heima”. the site launches with a performance of “ný batterí” from the ólafsvík concert from july 24th 2006. once registered you will get the download links and also be kept informed about other updates to the bands new album and live events.

update: if you are have any issues with the playing the ný batterí files on the sigurros.com site, try to rename the files to something shorter.
