svefn g englar donation
sigur rós have donated their song svefn-g-englar to the national society for prevention of cruelty to children (npscc) for use in their television commercial.

best of
in a ‘best of 2001′ feature in the latest issue of entertainment weekly, the ‘best use of music on a television show’ was sigur rós’s svefn-g-englar in an autopsy scene on the crime thriller show ‘csi’.
kilborn performance
sigur rós performed njósnavélin on the late late show with craig kilborn last friday. the band went overtime when playing the song so the producers cut a part of the song towards the end (they had played the song shorter during rehearsal). many fans were very disappointed to see the song cut because the band had previously declined the offer to perform on david letterman because of time restrictions, but apparently no tv shows like this allow more than 5 minutes of airtime. unfortunately sigur rós are no exception. anyhoo, it was a good performance and the camerawork was good, so we’re happy with what was shown. we have the video up for you to download, right-click on the links below to download:

barbican concert
sigur rós will play a unique one-off concert in london on april 21st. the show will be at the barbican theatre and will consist of brand new unheard material that has been written with icelandic composer hilmar örn hilmarsson (angels of the universe). the concert will feature an orchestra and choir, as well as pieces with steindór anderson. the material is for a forthcoming icelandic film based on the ancient icelandic poem ‘hrafnagaldur óðins’ of the edda collection, which is a collection of poems about heroes and mythology that were passed down generation to generation by word-of-mouth in the years 800-1100, and written down in the 12th century. you can read all about hrafnagaldur óðins on this webpage and you can purchase tickets to the concert here.
american tv exposure
tonight, vanilla sky will be premiered in the united states and sigur rós will perform a song from the film, njósnavélin, on the late late show with craig kilborn. this is obviously a big exposure for the band and will hopefully win over some new fans. we would be very thankful if anyone could record this show and encode it in relatively high quality so we can put it online. please email me if you can do this.
best ever
ágætis byrjun was selected the best icelandic album of the 20th century in a recent poll here in iceland, in which 108 experts took part, as well as the public. the results in both groups was that ágætis byrjun is the best icelandic album of the 20th century. also, time magazine has named sigur rós one of the ten best bands in the world today, in a music feature in this week’s issue.
prize donation
sigur rós have donated their $10,000 prize for winning the shortlist award to the new york association of new americans, which looks after immigrant workers families below the reach of welfare, who lost people in sept 11.
guitar tab site
hafssól, the sigur rós guitar tabs site, has been updated. in addition to having tabs to all released sigur rós songs, they now have the tabs to the new unreleased songs. you should check it out, if only for the beautiful design.
live american tv performance
sigur rós will perform njósnavélin on the american talk show ‘late late show with craig kilborn’ next friday (december 14th). the show airs on cbs at 12:35am est. the band was previously offered to perform on the late show with david letterman but rejected because they were only allowed to play for 4 minutes. in other news, the band is currently in hollywood attending the premiere of vanilla sky.
vaniilla sky update
three sigur rós songs will be in the upcoming hollywood film, vanilla sky. as has been mentioned before, the film is directed by cameron crowe (jerry maguire, almost famous) and stars tom cruise, penélope cruz, cameron diaz and kurt russel. the three songs are svefn-g-englar, ágætis byrjun and the unreleased njósnavélin. crowe will be using a live recording of njósnavélin, since it is unreleased, and it will be used in a key scene towards the film’s climax. svefn-g-englar will be on the soundtrack. more about this on the official press release.
