New high quality Loss-less blog!
New high quality Loss-less blog!
Hi everyone - posted today:
Soon I will be opening the sister site to Victoryrosemusic - Victory Rose Loss-Less. Over time I will be posting a good majority of the concerts found
here, in glorious Lossless FLAC audio. I will be starting in 1998 and moving towards 2008. I will be posting in this order as most of the concerts of
interest tend to be from the earlier years. More details soon : )
With love - Jon
For the time being I have no choice but to keep using rapidshare but I am working to make the downloading easy for everyone
OPEN - http://victoryroselossless.blogspot.com/
Please enjoy

I wasnt 100% sure what oxymoron meant so i looked it up . . . "The conjunction of words which, at first view, seem to be contradictory or
incongruous, but whose surprising juxtaposition expresses a truth or dramatic effect, such as, cool fire, deafening silence, wise folly, etc. " ? . .
. and WOW

Thats a nice idea. Ive already posted 1998 and 1999 Lossless to start but perhaps it would be nice to start with the Heima one as well . Will take a
few days because i have to do it again so I'll give everyone the address when its ready : )

Could I throw in a request for the Peel Session if you have it, I can't seem to find a decent copy, also maybe a compilation of little played and
unreleased songs?
VR site is great btw!
|
|
|
Im sorry, the peel session I have is a low bitrate MP3. Perhaps Someone here has a FLAC version?
Im planning to slowly work from '98 to 2008 with the concerts. I will be taking my time because I want them to be as qualified as possible. I wasn't
planning on doing a lossless rare and unreleased till much later BUT if you have a CD's worth of the very best for example I will do one.

Jon, thank you for all the work you do for sharing these concerts :)

can i point out that the usage of "o" instead of "ð" isn't doing your blog any good... for several reasons:
-it easily can give the impression that you are just copy/pasting things from elsewhere without knowing what you are talking about (which i am sure is
not the case)
-to people who don't know much about sigur rós and/or are unfamiliar with special icelandic characters it will only bring confusion
-most important of all: it is just plain wrong... if you can't use icelandic letters (or don't know how to write them) at least use "d" for
"ð"
the fact that on some occasions you actually use "ð" makes it even worse (and that can be extended to all the special icelandic caracthers... i.e.
you use agaetis bryjun [sic] alongside ágætis byrjun and ny batteri alongside ný batterí (to give to examples)
so there really is no excuse whatsoever for those o's

Hi Linus
you are right about one thing, I profess to not knowing anything about Icelandic letters and I will admit to putting far more emphasis into the music
itself than the language. - My apologies to all Icelandic people - On the Loss Less blog i do intend to try to get it as professional as possible. As
u rightly guessed I do tend to cut and paste the titles to try to get the correct caracthers but even within these there appears to be differences. .
. . 10 minutes later - okay I have a list from the Popplagio . . . sorry. . . Popplagið web site so from now on I will endeavor to use this for all
future concerts as a definitive reference thus hopefully making everything perfect
having said that - Linus I'm working very hard to improve and share what for me is something very wonderful and special - the Music of Sigur ros. I
hear you and I will do my best to follow your wishes but as I keep saying lets not forget everything we are enjoying here is from the kindness of
others. : )
|
|
|
Im just changing the Heima post to the correct caracthers now : )
|
|
|
:^)
i have nothing against people using say "ae" for "æ" or leaving out accents... i do that myself from time to time when i can't be bothered with
it
when it comes to your site however i think attention to such details (and consistent correct usage) are pretty important.
even if you are correct in saying that the music is what is important i believe it is those little things that can make or break a site
as far as "o" for "ð" is concerned ... well, let me just say that the person who came up with that idea deserves to sleep with pigeons for
eternity
writing popplagio pretty much equals someone saying "yeah, i like sugar rose... her voice is sooooo beautiful"
btw, you might find this here (written by the ever amazing oisín) usefull
edit: it should be orralagið
|
|
|
Yeah your right, i agree Linus, although its not an official site I do feel responsible for making it professional, especially the loss-Less one as
that will contain Only Sigur ros. you just tweeked one of my buttons a little bit there because I do sometimes have a bit of a bad habit of 'Oh that
will do' mentality instead of taking a little bit longer to do it right. nothing worse than having your faults pointed out!! ha ha ha
I do have the Icelandic text on my computer somewhere but i still find it a bit confusing because my keys are english. Anyway, to be honest it takes a
lot of work re-mastering some of these concerts and often by the time i have finished i have 4 eyes ! but as you say . . .no excuse do it properly : )
Keep me in check !Linus

That's a really nice site you have going, I appreciate it a lot. I just downloaded/listened to the Album Leaf show you have up on your non-lossless
site. Awesome.

I do have the Icelandic text on my computer somewhere but i still find it a bit confusing because my keys are english. |
this might help... the layout of an icelandic keyboard

so, unless i am mistaken (figuring things out from my belgian keyboard)
"ð" is on the "[" key
æ=;
þ=/
ö=-
´=' (+the vowel you need the accent on)
for the rest the main letter keys are the same
after a while you get to know the position of the characters, even if you don't see them on your key board
(edit: you wont need to bother with the ° diacritic, as far as i know that's not used in icelandic at all... i guess it is there because the danes
tried to indoctrinate the icelandics)
|
|
|
Holy Cannolly thats amazing!!
thanks for this - I really appreciate the kindness. I also just now, figured out how to change the default keypad language on my computer so . . .
.
Here it is my first official Icelandic word on my new Icelandic keyboard
Dauðalagið
woohoo
thanks

Sorry about the last post, I had a very strong cup of coffee this morning
|
|
|
Hey, many thanks! I greatly appreciate your efforts and have been looking for a lazy way to acquire the performances from Heima in decent quality
too.
Just out of interest, did you pick up the Portland, Oregon recording that has gone up on torrent sites? I've been listening to this a lot over the
weekend and think it's one of the best I've heard from the 08 shows. Be a good one to include on VRLosless.
Thanks again!

Yep
I may just do it and send you the links 1st until i am ready to post. I would like to post in order from 98 onwards
If you dont hear from me in week or so give me a cyber kick !
|
|
|
jonmmpar, I'm extremely excited to hear these concerts! The download is especially slow and I'm not really digging the use of the RapidShare service
as opposed to a torrent, but... not my decision.
Thank you so much for posting!
|
|
|
Im sorry, I know some people have speed issues with rapidshare. Until I can afford something better thats what I have to use. I would love to host it
on an FTP site but it costs a lot to do that.
If anyone has problems with download please dont hesitate to email/u2u me and we will sort something out privately
jon

Forgot to say - I have certain uploading 'issues' and my isp isnt the best so torrents are a little tricky for me.
Eventually i would love to see them accessible to everyone. In the past I couldnt get onto Dimeadozen and there wasn't much on BT.org. I have been
trying to make it as easy as possible. As I say if it works out I may well be able to host an FTP site for a year or so (if that is a good system??)
If anyone has the wish and capacity then please do sTorrent them
|
|
|
i think what you really need is your own website (rather than this blogger format) on a web-host which allows you lots of space and trafic so that you
can upload the flacs and link them directly on your own domain
here's a thread with some web host suggestions...
|
|
|
or you could try megaupload as an alternative to rapidshare.
http://www.megaupload.com/faq/
As a free user, you can store up to 50 GB of data in your account. The files will expire after 90 days of inactivity, but you can manually restart
that period at any time.
|
|
|
Thanks for the above. I will have a good think about it. I would like somewhere permanent like for example the SR FTP. What I want is a way in which
everyone has no problems to access and good consistant speeds. Sometimes I get very slow speeds from Megaupload as well so it leads me to think that
with these kinds of services there may be many different defining aspects as to whether you get a good speed or not. Perhaps the country where you
live, the time of day, the isp you use, or settings on your computer perhaps etc etc.
Does anybody have good / bad experiences with Megaupload?
One of the attractions of rapidshare is they say the files are never deleted. Also on some of the 200mb + files I can personally pay so that free
users can download files of this size.
Also I am happy to share stuff if requested on DC++ if that helps certain people.
Thanks again.
|
|
|
I have no problems with rapidshare and megaupload. Sometimes it's very fast, sometimes very slow, it depends, like you said.
|
|
|
i've not had problems with downloads with megaupload which is why i was suggesting it - that and you can post files up to 1gb for free.
i haven't used it for uploading, but i know of another live blog using to host flac files so it can't be that bad - although it might depend on the
country indeed. uploader is in the uk.
not sure what hosting provider could provide you with enough space or bandwidth for a reasonable price.
|
|
|
Im going look into it but will take my time so as to get it right.
BTW.
This is from a loss less show that will be posted in the future as it is from 2008 (portland)
It is mindblowing - different guitar and different singing !
http://rapidshare.com/files/183594200/Popplagi_.zip.html
|
|
|
i also put a vote in for megaupload. uploading to it is very good - i've always had very nice speeds and downloading is the same as all the other
sites of the ilk, except you can upload everything as a single file cause of the 1GB limit which is a huge bonus...
|
|
|
How much would it cost to make a SR torrent hub type thing...?
When you carry a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
|
|
|
^darren had one of those... his host took it down because it used up too much bandwidth
|
|
|
Thanks a million flo - uploading a file now to see about speeds etc. U can upload 5gb a time ! nice
I will pu the link here so perhaps folks can help me by seeing how fast downloads are
thanks again, appreciate it x
|
|
|
i've just received the link this morning so haven't tried it out yet.
anyway it's free so might as well as signup and see whether it works well or not.
