Superman Returns
It still pisses on Batman Begins, and tinkles disrespectfully all over The Dark Knight, and it's so much better than those three dreadful
Sp****man flicks it's not even funny. So the fact that the powers that be think they need Christopher Nolan to come in and "reboot" and "save"
the Superman franchise (probably by putting Supe in a black rubber suit and turning all the lights off on the set) is a joke. |
I agree with you that the Spiderman films werent great but youre wrong about everything else. |
VERY wrong.....
'superman returns' was was of the most boring super hero movies i've ever seen. |
agreed.
story was weak |
especially since the story was way to similar to the first superman film.

i dont think it was that similar to the original movie which imo is still one of, if not the best superhero type film. the original completely nailed
the whole origin story.

^ agreed that the original was fantastic, but think of it this way, in regards to how similar they are:
unless i completely screwed it up in my head, wasn't Luthors plan in the first one, to blow up the country + seperate California from the country, so
he could own it? basically, murdering millions just to get his own piece of land?
same idea with the newest one. murder millions, by creating this land that will suck in parts of the coast of the US, meaning he would be able to own
that land.
maybe i'm stretching.....

Wasnt 'Superman Returns' basically Bryan Singer's love letter to the original film and a sort of sequel to it (and kind of part II) essentially
ignoring pts 3 and 4?
Its a shame he left X-Men 3 to make it really. He should have finished his work there.
Ive only seen the original 1978 Superman which i hated and Superman Returns which was ok-ish but left me a bit cold. Im yet to bother with 3 and 4.
Surely 'Smallville' is a strong contender for the best adapatation of the Superman story on the big or small screen? I wish I had continued watching
it as now i see trailers for the new episodes and i think it would appeal a lot after recently working my way through a lot of DC comic books.
Personally i cant wait for Nolan to produce a Superman trilogy - once he's done with Batman of course.

i finally got around to seeing inception (2010).
i spent most of the film thinking how wonderful the costume designer was. so many beautiful ties. except one pair of cillian murphy's cufflinks, they
were really ugly.
i was working on very little sleep so i don't think i paid much attention to the film besides what the characters were wearing. it seemed very well
made, though. i think suits were just on my mind because i'd been to the tailor earlier that day.
also smallville does my head in. well, i gave up watching it years ago because it was all 'clark and girl, together' then 'no clark cannot be with
girl' and 'but wait, this way clark and girl can be together' but suddenly 'no, they cannot be together'. oh the angst! and what series are we on
now, eight? and he still can't fly! bah.

The Wicker Man (2006)
I generally stay away from pointless remakes of classic british films ('The Italian Job' not set in Italy, Stallone's 'Get Carter' etc) but due
to the unique odd nature of the original and the presence of Nic Cage i gave this a go. I thought they would turn this into a regular horror but
instead they stuck to the story quite faithfully - but the whole thing felt too polished and wasnt allowed to develop its own sense of weirdness or
mystery, dispite a couple of good ideas. An interesting failure, it just saddens me that for some people this will be their first, and perhaps only,
version of the film they see.

i have a friend who, for the best part of a year, would watch the wicker man (original) every single time he got home from a night out.
i like the film, but not that much. he has the attention span of a five-year-old, too. i just don't get it.

Maria, Full of Grace.
oh man. it was intense. |
Your short review urged me to search this out (is on youtube!).
Was intense and very 'real'. She deserved the Academy nomination for this.

Russell Brand: Scandalous - Live at the O2 Arena (2009)
His best and most satisfying stand up DVD to date. My favourite parts of his previous live shows have been when he analyses the tabloids coverage of
himself. Like many comedians Brand needs a central theme to riff off, this is why his radio show was so good; a topic or idea would present its self
and off he’d go. With this DVD the subject is the scandals over ‘Sachsgate’ and the MTV VMA’s. He rips apart both brilliantly. The DVD also contains a
good interview between Brand and Frank Skinner.
The Haunted House of Horror (1969)
A swinging sixties horror film that I thought was going to be a standard haunted house film. Instead only one character is killed in the house and
although they suspect the culprit is one of their own group they agree to cover up the killing. The plot would actually make a serviceable film but it
was so dated and rubbish.
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)
Meh. I love the first film but this doesn’t do much for me. I dislike the tone and the lack of plot. Tries to be too clever for its own good.
Four Lions (2010)
Genius dark comedy/satire from Chris Morris about British Jihadists.
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Ok, bit predictable but its hard to dislike Will Smith.

Groundhog Day.
Like for real.

Four Lions- some very funny scenes although it would of worked better as a series on Channel 4 or something, but this is Chris Morris and TV are still
scared to touch him with a shitty stick....even after all these years!

^love it.
Also, watched The Host, last week. Unexpectedly funny Korean thriller, left me happy.

No that was Charlie Brooker - although they both worked together on 'Nathan Barley'.

Adventureland.
I really cannot understand what I like about this movie. Maybe it's just Jesse Eisenberg's intonation/accent.
I have no idea.
