NYC 9/13 show
yessss
i wanted to make the thread
random comments:
why aren't they playing gong; it's the best live song on takk
the girls in aminanimapizzapizza are cute
i saw that poalaoa girl from this board in the lobby
i liked that effects thing jonsi had that took his voice and strung it out
the show wasn't as powerful as the ones on the last tour
|
|
|
setlist was same as last night

yeah i'm pretty sure there was one

i was in CC, left side, behind those damn hoez standing up with the cameras

Setlist taken right off the sound board:
Intro
Glósóli
Ný batterí
Svefn-g-englar
Sćglópur
Vaka (Untitled #1)
Njósnavélin (Untitled #4)
Hoppípolla
Međ blóđnasir
Hafssól
Smáskífa
Popplagiđ (Untitled #8)
I thought the band was great! Gorgeous as ever.
However, I didn´t care for the stage lights on the floor, which the light operator seemed to have little knowledge of... the floor lights would
suddenly pop up from dim to bright and blind everyone. I thought the lighting on the ( ) tour was much much more beautiful and elegant.
And that front scrim has got to go. It was NOT ELEGANT and CLUMSY and DISTRACTING. Why bring it in halfway through the encore?

here are my comments on tonight's show...
i thought it was better than last nights, despite the fact that the setlist was exactly the same. jonsi's voice seemed stronger tonight, he also
seemed a bit more upbeat and happy... there were some funny exchanges between jonsi and orri during the instrumental portion of Hoppipolla - they
looked at each other and started giggling).
i thought pop song was vicious tonight, much better than last night. all in all, the band was fantastic.
the crowd, on the other hand, i found to be a bit abrasive/annoying tonight. there were some kids sitting next to me cracking jokes during the "bird
on a wire" display, a lot of random/unnecesssary yelling during songs, and i hope the dude that yelled "play freebird" at the end of the show kills
himself. fine, maybe that's a bit harsh.
again, i would have liked either Olsen Olsen and/or Milano, really wanted it, but no luck. Excellent two nights though.
DARREN - I tried to find you to introduce myself and thank you for doing such a good job moderating... but i then realized i had no idea what you
looked like. during intermission, as i was walking by the soundboard, i yelled your name to see if anyone would respond, but no luck.
so... thanks for the excellent moderating and music selection on DC++!

did you guys happen to notice how much the t-shirts were?

some barefoot hippie dude sat in the aisle on the very front left, and made weird devil-worshipping gestures during the encore

I thought both shows were terrific...though I was bummed that it was the same setlist. I was, at least, hoping that they could have substituted 2
songs...it would have been great to hear olsenolsen and untitled 3. It actually would have been better to hear more of Takk... Its been almost 2
years since I've seen them live and it seemed not much changed from the old shows.
Crowd was annoying tonight. To all those who started clapping about 15 seconds before Haffsol ended tonight, you missed Kjartan on the flute. I love
the way that song ends.

i regret to say mr. freebird was my ridiculously stupid/intoxicated (but utterly dedicated) friend. he's a huge fan but just a little retarded. i
apologize to all who may have suffered him.
i picked up a hoodie, the one w/ the birds and what not - $40 - a bit excessive, but it was my first sigur ros show and i thought it was
i.n.c.r.e.d.i.b.l.e. we had seats in row H but someone was sitting in them, so we just went up to C (at least i think it was C - it was close).

yes
you said hi to a really small girl in front of me, and asked her if she liked the show
|
|

As my first ever Sigur Ros show.. I loved everything about it. I was in the Loge all the way back but still could see everything pretty clearly. They
sounded so great.. the only annoying thing was that people still coming in to find their seats into the first couple of songs and partially blocking
my view. Other than that it was a slice of heaven hehe.

Agreed. I had the unfortunate honor of sitting directly next to that guy and his friend (who apparently posts here and was NOT annoying). Talked
through the entire show, started yelling "Freebird" and shit, I was praying for a light to fall down on him.
The fans seemed to be a bit better at the 9/12, I got really annoyed by all of the people getting out of their seats, talking, going on beer runs,
etc. The girl in front of me got up in the MIDDLE of 'haffsol' to refill her beer!
But all of that certainly beats NOT seeing Sigur Ros live, hope the guys know they put on 2 incredible shows and that we're all extremely grateful
for that.....

Was sitting in front of the "free bird" hipster; how post-ironic.
What about the annoying photographer clicking away during blissful moments of ambience?
These gripes aside, I thought the show was fine; not nearly as good as the last Radio City and Beacon ones here.
I felt a few songs were off (for example Hoppipolla), while others (such as Glosoli) were right on. Jonsi nonetheless looked like he was enjoying
himself expressing a few smiles later in the performance.
The Amina girls were OK; too Mum-like (but much less complex) for me. I guess the show started promtply so that they can make their curfews.
Wish they would have had Takk vinyl for sale.
The acoustics in the Beacon are amazing. Wish Arcade Fire was playing there rather than Central Park tomorrow night during the tropical storm!

Big Al NYC & dirt: again, i'm so so sorry about my friend - i hope his presence didn't cause either of you guys, or anyone for that matter, to enjoy
the show less. i was trying to keep him quiet by ignoring the random comments he seemed to feel ^had^ to be made, but it seemed like he would not shut
up.
again, sorry all :( first & last time i bring him to a sigur ros show.
|
|
|
Haha, don't worry about it at all. I know I wasn't THAT bothered, it's just funny that so many of us here were right in the same area.
I was the shmuck in the tie.
|
|
|
Ok, did anyone here the dude who said "Wow" really loudly when the band had made their first exit and the doves on the screen were all flying away?
haha

|
thank you bossanova! i've thought the same thing all tour...i've felt the lights were very....underwhelming compared to every tour before this. i
miss the dramatic lights of popsong. and the speckles of light off the disco balls when they played njósnavélin earlier on and later samskeyti.
i was up in the lodge last night, last row, and it was terrible. people getting up throughout EVERY song. i kept thinking "do they need another drink
that bad?!" or "how bad do all these people have to use the restroom that they can't hold it or go before the show?". it completely ruined the
experience having the doors right next to me open every 20 seconds. don't get me wrong...the show was great, but people ought to have more curtosey
about those they are sitting in front of/by the door.
seated shows are nice if you have good seats, otherwise standing is the way to go cause you don't have people getting up & blocking your view
throughout every song or a light come shining in killing the atmosphere. i really wish Sigur Rós would play Hammerstien next time instead of Beacon
for the 5th time, or even worse Radio City again.
|
|
|
Yeah Melissa, I was sitting all the way back in the lodge as well next to the door and that was the only thing that bothered/surprised me.. that so
many people kept walking back and forth for beer and stuff.

my profound apologies. i was really trying to keep my head down as much as possible so as not to disturb people's sight lines but i obviously didn't
succeed at this venue. it was really hard last night because of venue rules as to where we could photograph from. i really wish you would have spoken
up at the time.

Interesting.. I look at the responses and they seem mostly negative (though in a constructive way), where yesterday's posts were overtly positive.
Only reason it's so interesting is that i thought last night's show was vastly superior.
I was lucky in surrounding crowd.. no public nuisances. The mix was greatly improved (except for Hoppipola.. but it's only the 3rd time they've
played that live.. they'll get it eventually). On Monday night, Jonsi's guitar could barely be heard. Last night it was perfectly mixed.
I thought Jonsi was hitting the notes rather comfortably. He didn't do that pull away from the mic thing that he sometimes is forced to do when his
voice is fighting with him and he's worried he won't hit the note.
Agreed, I prefer the lights of previous years. And I really don't like the use of the curtain on glossoli... much better on pop.
I left on monday rather disappointed. I left last night in complete awe.
T-shirts are $25.. I didn't check price on the hand-made ones, though

yup, a bit pricey. but they were 40euros in the european tour which works out at close to 50$
|
|
|
great show again, I preferred the monday show (probably due to my great seats)...I'm glad I also went to philadelphia since the setlist was
significantly different there....
also, viđrar needs to be added to the setlist above....concerning the crowd, I really didn't think they were that bad (didn't hear freebird guy)
exception: during the silence of viđrar this couple comes into the show for the first time!?!? the usher leads them to their row (w) which is of
course right in front of me...the entire row has to stand up so that these two drunken lovebirds can stumble to their seats....so the silence sounded
more to me like "sorry - giggle - giggle-belch-sorry-giggle- giggle" -
but anyway, i thoroughly enjoyed the shows this tour and a sincere thankyou to the band and everyone here who provided information about tickets/the
tour etc...

No worries, brother. I guess I wish I was as inebriated as your friend. Only had a spliff and a whiskey prior.
In actuality, I would love to see SR in a place like Bowery Ballroom; in other words, not seated and in a more casual environment.
Can anyone prey to Ophelia that she not piss on us at AF tomorrow night?

thanks for saying that. but seriously, i really make an effort to keep out of people's way...and sometimes in the heat of things i forget for a
little while, especially when i know i am about to get some good lighting. so it's okay as far as i'm concerned to nudge me and let me know.

the devil-worshipping dude was more annoying, because he was distracting me during the encore
you should not be distracted during the encore
|
|
|
I was on row D, stage left center
.
I concur about the limp mohawky dude with the camera. Quite annoying. I almost told him I didn't pay $60 to see the back of his fucking head instead
of Jonsi singing.
Drove 14 hours to go to that show and hang out in NYC for a couple of days. Far, far, far, far, far worth it. Best concert I've seen. Even U2.

Btw, I was the really tall white kid with a white shirt with a little blue cross and "Calvary Baptist Day School"; probably a bit to small at that.
:)

Thanks for bringing up that vidrar was left outof the setlist posted above...i thought i was going crazy (you mean the 20 second, heart stopping, path
altering pause WASN'T in the middle of that song)...
I saw both shows and thought the crowd on 9/12 was better except that there was clapping during the pause of vidrar. 9/12 everyone waited until they
absolutely sure there was no more music after each song before clapping, but 9/13 broke right into applause over the end of a few songs....but really,
what a good problem to have...
i took my sister who i have been trying to get to see them for a while now, and she was crying during the first song. what an amazing experience to
share with loved ones and family.
thanks.

the show was absolutely amazing!! epiphanal, if that is a word. i met the guys early this summer in nyc out shopping and couldn't quite keep it
together. they were extremely sweet and kind and open. i didn't get to say all that i wanted to say to them, but i did get to tell them how much i
love their music. and finally seeing them in concert (i missed them years ago in chicago) was quite possibly my favorite live performance. heavenly.
hope everyone else had a wonderful time as well.
|
|
|
oh and btw, i saw you -- "tall white kid with a white shirt with a little blue cross and 'Calvary Baptist Day School' -- after the show out front.
hope you had fun in nyc! or are still having fun if you're still here. a 14 hour drive -- you better have a good time.
and I'm thinking it was my favorite concert too.
